ARTIST STATEMENT
As a photographer, I’m most interested in the relationships between the person, the camera, and the moment. I try to capture candid everyday experiences that are all around us. I explore a variety of subjects and styles, including documentary, abstract, portraiture and landscapes. By isolating and framing my chosen subject in their environment, these typically unremarkable moments are transformed into something powerful, capturing and exploring emotions that may go unnoticed in time. Through the lens, I hope to change the viewer’s relationship to the mundane, and challenge how we see the ordinary in the world around us.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Eldy Mendez is a freelance and documentary photographer based in Jacksonville, Florida. He was first introduced to art by his mother. When he was younger, she would draw and illustrate things to tell him stories. She later introduced him to photography as well. His mother was the "family photographer", he saw what she had captured with her camera and learned that he too could preserve moments and tell stories through this simple tool. He began to see things differently in everyday experiences. He captures candid moments and events, with an eye for personal everyday interactions. Graduated from the University of North Florida with a B.F.A. in Photography. Eldy continues to pursue Documentary Photography projects along with working as a Freelance photographer.
